The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and the District Council have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the objective of strengthening control over private housing societies in the city.
Last week, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema, who also serves as the administrator of the District Council, conducted a meeting to address the rapid growth of housing societies in the district and ensure effective regulation of such societies. The decision was taken to consolidate power and regulatory functions under a single civic body.
The main objective is to establish the terms and conditions for transferring the responsibility of regulating private housing societies in Rawalpindi and overseeing Building Control from the District Council to the RDA.
To facilitate a smooth transition and ensure effective regulation, the Rawalpindi District Council will provide the RDA with the necessary data and human resources. Starting from June 25th, the RDA will officially assume the responsibilities of overseeing and supervising private housing societies in the local government districts, as delegated by the District Council administrator.
